We get asked a lot about the things we use for our pack of puppers so this is a list of the things we personally use and like. We receive no compensation for anything listed here, but feel free to do your own research.
The titles are direct links to purchase them. Almost everything can be found on Amazon, Chewy, or Petco.
This is the puppers primary source of nutrition. They LOVE JustFoodForDogs, especially the "Beef and Russet Potatoes". It's human grade, made in commercial kitchens. We've been feeding this since Twix was alive and the company only had a few kitchens in CA. Now they have a distribution center in NJ and can be found in Petco on the east coast.
Mom starts eating this once we know we're having puppies and continues to eat this after the puppies are born. The puppies begin to eat this after being weaned off of mom. It comes in multiple sizes but only in chicken. There is a grain free option but we read some articles that made us leery of feeding that.
Once the puppers hit adulthood we switch them over to the adult version of The Honest Kitchen Small breed. There are other recipes but only chicken is available in small breed. We mix it with the Blue Buffalo. They are allowed to free feed/graze on this during the day.
Durwood feeds this and the puppers really like it. I'm not convinced it's the best for them but given it's not their main source of food we continue to buy it and they continue to enjoy it.
These are dog crack! Our dogs go absolutely insane for them. They are tiny, usually no bigger than a dime so they are perfect for training, hide and seek, puzzle toys or just a quick treat. We use them at bed time and toss them around so the puppers have to use their nose to find them. It helps with mental stimulation and makes a fun bedtime game.
These are another go to treat. They are a single ingredient, which I love. I spend more time reading ingredients for what the dogs consume than myself. They come cut up in cubes about 3/4 of an inch but I don't find the puppers have any issue with sizing. We mostly buy beef or chicken, but Polo has a love for all things seafood so he enjoys the salmon.
We love Outer Barks! Make sure you visit the next time you're in Duck. They make their own treats, in house, and they have a sample station so you can try before you buy! We've bought many flavors over the years but the proverbial favorites are the Coconut Crunch and Pizza Bites. They also like the Beef Liver but since we already buy Stewart liver treats we try to mix it up. Don't forget to stop by their Yappy Hour!
The puppers love not only chewing, but playing with and hiding these bones. Expect furious attempts to bury the bones and high speed chases as the puppers taunt each other with their new found treasure. We love them because they help save our furniture, walls, trim, steps, and any other appetizing things a teething or just generally munchy pupper might decide to chew on. Beware of orange poops if they eat too many in one sitting.
I never thought I'd be buying CBD, let alone for my dog, but I first used this when Twix got older to help with his arthritis and anxiety. As Polo got older I've done the same for him. It's not a magical cure all but it does help. They have a bunch of different options, I find the Ultra Releaf to work the best for our purposes but they have lots of options for whatever may ail your pupper.
As we all know, Yorkie have terrible teeth so we have to do everything we can to help them. PlaqueOff has been a great tool for us. I discovered this in 2024 in a desperate attempt to help Polo's teeth. They were clearly bothering him but he is way beyond the point that he could be put under anesthesia for a teeth cleaning. After a bunch of research of approved VOHC products and a discussion with my vet (in Vienna), I decided to give this a try. I didn't have high hopes but it worked. Polo's teeth weren't pearly white, but the plaque softened and started to chunk off.
**CAUTION: I will note, there were a number of negative reviews, even ones claiming it killed their dog. I take everything with a grain of salt, but use at your own discretion. If you see any negative changes in your dog, stop it immediately.
While technically more of a treat than a supplement, we find these useful for giving the dreaded pill to an unwilling pupper. While probably the most chemically processed of the flavors, Hickory Smoke seems to be the favorite. We have Polo's cardiologist to thank for that one.
